Vintage Lace Square

An interesting stitch pattern creates the look of a lovely, vintage lace quilt in this pretty square that produces a reversible design. Add a beautiful button, jewel or bead accent to the center for an added touch of elegance.

  • Medium (worsted) weight yarn:
    1/2 oz/25 yds/14g each white and pink
  • Crochet hook size H or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Rnd 1: With white, ch 7, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 16 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc. (16 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 6 (counts as dc and ch-3 sp), dc in same st (corner made), *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st**, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st (corner made), rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-6, fasten off.

Rnd 3: Join pink with sc in any corner ch-3 sp, 4 sc in same ch sp, *[sc in next st on this rnd, working behind next ch sp, dc in next sk st 2 rnds below] twice, sc in next st on this rnd**, 5 sc in next corner ch-3 sp, rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), sk next st, *(dc, ch 3, dc) in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] 4 times, ch 1, sk next st, rep from * twice, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] 3 times, ch 1, sk last st, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4, fasten off.

Rnd 5: Join white with sc in any corner ch-3 sp, 4 sc in same sp, *[sc in next st on this rnd, working behind next ch sp, dc in next sk st 2 rnds below] 5 times, sc in next st on this rnd**, 5 sc in next corner ch-3 sp, rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 6: Ch 4, sk next st, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st, *[ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] 7 times, ch 1, sk next st, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st, rep from * twice, [ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] 6 times, ch 1, sk last st, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4, fasten off.

Rnd 7: Join pink with sc in any corner ch-3 sp, 4 sc in same ch sp, *[sc in next st on this rnd, working behind next ch sp, dc in next sk st 2 rnds below] 8 times, sc in next st on this rnd**, 5 sc in next corner ch-3 sp, rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.

Rnd 8:Working this rnd in back lps only, join white with sc in center st of any 5-sc corner group, ch 2, sc in same st, sc in each st around with (sc, ch 2, sc) in center st of each 5-sc corner group, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off. Weave in all ends.
