Hairpin Lace Bookmark

Finished Size
8 1/2" long not including Fringe.

Materials

Acrylic sport yarn -- 20 yds. lilac and 15 yds. vanilla;
Adjustable hairpin loom;
D crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge
8 sc = 1".

Basic Stitches:
Ch, sl st, sc.

Bookmark
Center Strip
Adjust loom to 1 1/2" width; remove top bar. With lilac, place slip knot on hook. Slide loop off hook and onto left-hand prong of loom (see illustration 1). Replace top bar of loom. Draw yarn around right-hand side of loom to the back (see illustration 2). Insert hook into loop of slip knot and pull until knot is at center, yo, pull strand at back through lp on hook (see illustration 3), ch 1. *Drop lp from hook; insert hook in dropped lp from back to front, turn loom from right to left passing the yarn around to the back of the loom, yo, pull strand at back through lp on hook, ch 1, sc in top front strand on left-hand side of center sts (see illustration 4); repeat from * until you have 52 lps on each side (see illustration 5). Fasten off.

Border
Rnd 1: Slide lps off loom. Working around outer edge, skip first 2 lps, join lilac with sc in next 2 lps at same time, [*ch 4, pull skipped lps to front of work, sc in same skipped lps at same time, skip next 2 lps, sc in next 2 sps at same time; repeat from * 11 more times, ch 4, pull previous skipped lps to front of work, sc in same skipped lps at same time, ch 5, sc in spine at center, ch 5]; working on opposite side of Center Strip; skip next 2 lps, sc in next 2 lps at same time, repeat between [ ], join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join vanilla with sc in sc at spine, ch 3, sc in same st, *4 sc in next ch sp, 5 sc in each of next 13 ch sps, 4 sc in next ch sp*, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next sc at spine; repeat between **, join. Fasten off.

Fringe
Cut seven strands vanilla each 7" long. Fold strands in half, insert hook in ch sp at end of Bookmark, draw fold through, draw all loose ends through fold, tighten. Trim ends.
