Materials

• 3-ply worsted weight yarn*: 4 oz royal blue #5885, 1 1/2 oz medium blue #5823, 1 oz each fuchsia #5768 and light purple #5587, 1/4 oz kiwi #5657
• Size G/6 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle

*Coats & Clark Red Heart TLC yarn was used in the sample project.

Gauge
Square = 5 inches; Rnds 1 and 2 = 3 1/4 inches
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Sl st to join each rnd in top of beg st.
Materials listed will make 2 place mats.
Make 12 squares, 6 of each flower color (fuchsia and light purple).
3-tr cl: *Yo hook twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * twice, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.
Beg 3-tr cl: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), *yo hook twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * once, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Rnd 1 (RS): With kiwi, ch 4, sl st to join in first ch, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join in beg sc, fasten off. (8 sc)
Rnd 2 (RS): Draw up a lp of flower color in any sc, beg 3-tr cl in same sc, ch 3, [3-tr cl in next sc, ch 3] 7 times, join in top of beg cl, fasten off. (8 petals)
Rnd 3 (RS): Draw up a lp of medium blue in any ch-3 sp, ch 1, 5 sc in same ch-3 sp as beg ch-1, ch 1, [5 sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1] rep around, join in beg sc, turn. (40 sc; 8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 4 (WS): Ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk next st, [sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st] rep around, join in beg sc, fasten off, turn. (24 sc; 24 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 5 (RS): Draw up a lp of royal blue in center ch-1 sp between petals, ch 1, sc in same ch-1 sp as beg ch-1, sk sc sts and work in ch-1 sps only, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, *ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp **, [ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, ch 1, join in beg sc.
Rnd 6 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each sc and each ch-1 sp around, working [sc, ch 3, sc] in each corner ch-2 sp, join in beg sc, fasten off.

Assembly
With RS facing, arrange squares in 2 rows of 3 squares, alternating colors. With royal blue, working through back lps only, whipstitch squares tog.

Border
Rnd 1 (RS): Draw up a lp of royal blue in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sc] in same ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 1 sc (or joining seam), sc in next sc (or next ch-2 sp at seam)] rep around working at each rem corner, ch 1, sk 1 sc, [sc, ch 2, sc] in corner ch-2 sp, ending rnd with ch 1, sk last sc, join in beg sc, sl st into ch-2 sp.
Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 3, sl st in same ch-2 sp, [ch 2, sk next sc, sl st in next ch-1 sp] rep around working at each corner, ch 2, sk next sc, [sl st, ch 3, sl st] in corner ch-2 sp, ending rnd with ch 2, sk last sc, sl st in joining sl st of previous rnd, fasten off.
