Materials

• Crochet cotton size 10 (225 yds per ball): 1 ball ecru
• Size 7 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• 19 (1-inch or less) assorted buttons
• 12 (3/8-inch) assorted buttons
• Sewing needle and ecru all-purpose thread

Gauge
Rnds 1-8 of center motif = 1 7/8 inches in diameter
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Note
Join each rnd with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Pattern Stitch
Jch-5: Ch 2, sl st in corresponding ch-5 sp on previous motif, ch 2.

Center Motif
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. (7 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in each rem sc around, join in beg sc. (14 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in next sc, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (21 sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] twice, [sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, {sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc} twice] rep around, join in beg sc. (30 sc)

Row 7: Working in back lps only this row, sc in each of first 10 sc, sl st in first free ch-5 sp to the right of joining st between any 2 motifs, 3 sc in next sc, sl st in first free ch-5 sp after joining st on next motif, sc in each rem sc across to last 2 sc, leave last 2 sc unworked, fasten off.
Work 1 leaf between each rem pair of motifs around outer edge of doily.

Finishing
Starch and block doily; let dry thoroughly.
With sewing needle and ecru all-purpose thread, sew 1 (3/8-inch) button at base of each leaf around outer edge of doily; sew 1 (1-inch or less) button at center of each motif.
