Place a penny from her year of birth inside, combining the old with the new.


Finished Size
2 1/4" across

Materials

  • Small amount white size 10 crochet cotton thread
  • 6" blue 1/8" satin ribbon
  • Shiny penny
  • 1" self-adhesive pin backing
  • Craft glue
  • No. 7 steel hook or hook size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge
Rnd 1= 1" across

Basic Stitches
Ch, sl st, sc, dc.

Holder
Center (make 2)
Ch 12, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, sc in first ch, ch 3, (sc in next ch, ch 3) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. (12 ch sps made)

Edging
Rnd 1: Holding pieces wrong sides together, matching ch sps, working through both thicknesses, join with sl st in any ch sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch sp, 3 dc in each ch sp around inserting penny before closing, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (36 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 5, sl st in third ch from hook, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, (sc in next st, ch 5, sl st in third ch from hook, ch 3, skip next 3 sts) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Tie ribbon in bow.
Glue bow to center top of rnd 1 on Edging (see photo).
Attach pin backing to center top of rnd 1 on wrong side of Edging.

  • 24 inches 1/8-inch-wide white ribbon
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge
Rnds 1-9 of front = 2 1/4 inches in diameter
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join each rnd with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Finishing
Sew fabric circles with RS tog, leaving an opening for turning. Turn RS out; stuff lightly with fiberfill. Add scent; stitch opening closed.

Sew white pearl to center of flower with sewing needle and white thread.

Holding front and back tog with fabric disc between layers, weave 3/8-inch-wide ribbon through ch sps of both thicknesses over and under tr groups; secure ends. Secure 1/8-inch-wide ribbon above joining of woven ribbon and tie ends into a double bow.
