Materials

  • Medium (worsted) weight yarn or size 10 crochet cotton:
    Approx. 18 yds (per motif)
  • Size G/6/4mm crochet hook (yarn version) or size 3/2.10mm steel crochet hook (thread version)       
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge
Yarn version: Rnds 1-3 = 3 inches
Thread version: Rnds 1-3 = 1 1/2 inches

Pattern Note
Join all rounds with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

First Motif
Ch 6, join with sl st in beg ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 15 hdc in ring, join in beg hdc. (16 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, *sc in next hdc, ch 10, sk next hdc, sc in next hdc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next hdc, rep from * 3 times, join in beg sc.  (4 ch-3 sps, 4 ch-10 lps)

Rnd 3: *(5 sc, ch 3, 5 sc) in next ch-10 lp, 3 sc in next ch-3 lp, rep from * 3 times, join in beg sc.

Rnd 4: Sl st  in each st across to first ch-3 lp, ch 1, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-3 lp, ch 7, sk next 6 sc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next sc, ch 7, sk next 6 sc , rep from * 3 times, join in beg sc.

Rnd 5: Sl st in first ch-3 lp, ch 2, (hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in same lp, *7 sc in next ch-7 lp, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in next ch-3 lp, 7 sc in next ch-7 lp**, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in next ch-3 lp, rep from * 3 times, ending last rep at **, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

Rnd 6: Sl st in each st to first ch-3 lp, ch 1, *(3 sc, ch 3, 3 sc) in next ch-3 lp, ch 4, sk next 5 sts, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next st, ch 8, sk next 10 sc and ch-3 lp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next st, ch 4, sk next 5 sts, rep from * 3 times, join in beg sc.

Rnd 7: Sl st in each st to first ch-3 lp, ch 2, (2 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) in same lp, *ch 2, 2 sc in next ch-4 lp, ch 3, (4 sc, ch 3, 4 sc) in next ch-8 lp, ch 3, 2 sc in next ch-4 lp, ch 2**, (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) in next ch-3 lp, rep from * 3 times, ending last rep at **, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

Rnd 8: Sl st in each st to first ch-3 lp, ch 2, (2 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) in same lp, *ch 5, sk next 3 sts and ch-2 lp, sc in next sc, ch 3, sc in next sc, ch 5, sk next ch-3 lp and 4 sts, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-3 lp, ch 5, sk next 4 sts and ch-3 lp, sc in next sc, ch 3, sc in next sc, ch 5, sk next ch-2 and 3 sts**, (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) in next ch-3 lp, rep from * 3 times, ending last rep at **, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2, fasten off.

2nd and Remaining Motifs

Rnds 1-7: Rep Rnds 1-7 of First Motif

Rnd 8 (joining rnd): Work same as Rnd 8 of First Motif, except work each corner ch-3, and the center ch-3 on each side, as follows: (ch 1, sl st in corresponding ch-3 lp on previous motif, ch 1).
