Baby Bath Cloths

Delight the mother-to-be with this set of three cotton cloths for Baby's bath time! Include a bar of baby soap in a decorative container for the baby shower!

Skill Level
Beginner

Finished Size
Yellow: 6 1/2 inches square
Blue: 7 inches square
Pink: 7 inches square

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton: 70 yards each yellow, blue and pink.
  • Size D/3 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge
8 dc = 1 1/2 inches
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Note
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Pattern Stitches
Shell: [3 dc, ch 1, {sc, hdc, dc} over side edge of 3rd dc of 3-dc group] in indicated st.

V-st: [dc, ch 1, dc] in indicated st.

Beg V-st: Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1), dc in same st as beg ch-4.

4-dc cl: [Yo hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 4 times in same st, yo, draw through all 5 lps on hook.

Gift Verse
Include a pretty note card with the following gift verse for the new Mom!

Wash me gently;
Wash me quick!
Pink, blue or yellow,
Which shall I pick?
Soft as can be,
Add a little soap,
Now the fun will begin,
At least I hope!

Yellow Cloth
Row 1 (RS): With yellow, ch 33, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each rem ch across, turn. (31 dc)

Row 2: Ch 1, [sc, 2 dc] in same dc as beg ch-1, [sk 2 dc, {sc, 2 dc} in next dc] rep across to last 3 dc, sk next 2 dc, sc in top of turning ch. (31 sts)

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), dc in each dc and each sc across, turn. (31 sts)

Rows 4-15: [Rep Rows 2 and 3] 6 times.

Edging
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, *working over side edge of rows, [sc, 3 dc] over end of dc row, sk next sc row (8 groups) *, working across opposite side of foundation ch, [sk 3 sts, {sc, 3 dc} in next ch] rep across (8 groups), rep from * to *, working across Row 15, [sk 3 sts, {sc, 3 dc} in next dc] rep across (8 groups), join in beg sc, fasten off.

Blue Cloth
Row 1 (RS): With blue, ch 34, dc in 4th ch from hook, sk next 2 chs, sc in next ch, [sk next 2 chs, shell in next ch, sk next 2 chs, sc in next ch] rep across to last 3 chs, sk next 2 chs, 4 dc in last ch, turn. (5 shells)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, [sk next 3 sts, shell in next sc, sk next 3 sts, sc in ch-1 sp of shell] rep across, ending with sc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), 3 dc in same sc as beg ch-3, sk next 3 sts, sc in next ch-1 sp of shell, [sk next 3 sts, shell in next sc, sk next 3 sts, sc in next ch-1 sp of shell] rep across, ending with sk 3 sts, 4 dc in last sc, turn.

Rows 4-19: [Rep Rows 2 and 3] 8 times.

Edging
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, [work 26 sc evenly sp across edge, 3 sc in corner st] 4 times, join in beg sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st as beg ch-2, sk 3 sts, [3 hdc in next st, sk 3 sts] rep around, working 5 hdc in each center corner sc, join in top of beg ch-2, fasten off.

Pink Cloth
Row 1 (WS): With pink, ch 41, dc in 5th ch from hook, [sk 2 chs, V-st in next ch] twice, *ch 2, sk 2 chs, sc in next ch, ch 3, sk next 2 chs, sc in next ch, ch 2, [sk 2 chs, V-st in next ch] 3 times, rep from *, turn.

Row 2 (RS): Sl st into ch-1 sp of V-st, beg V-st in same ch-1 sp, V-st in each of next 2 ch-1 sps of V-sts, *sk ch-2 sp, 4-dc cl in next ch-3 sp, [ch 1, 4-dc cl] twice in same ch-3 sp, sk next ch-2 sp, V-st in each of next 3 ch-1 sps of V-st, rep from *, turn.

Row 3: Sl st into ch-1 sp of V-st, beg V-st in same ch-1 sp, V-st in each of next 2 ch-1 sps of V-sts, *ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, [V-st in next ch-1 sp of V-st] 3 times, rep from *, turn.

Rows 4-15: [Rep Rows 2 and 3] 6 times.

Edging
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, working across edge, *[{sc, ch 3, sc} over side edge of dc row] rep across edge, [{sc, ch 3, sc} in ch-2 sp] rep across edge, rep from *, join in beg sc, fasten off.
