Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn: small amount white
  • Sport weight yarn: small amount burgundy and light green
  • Size E/4 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 5mm red bead
  • 2 (4mm) dark beads
  • 10 inches gold cord
  • 1/2-inch white pompom
  • Craft glue
  • Candy cane
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge
With worsted weight yarn, 3 sc rows = 1 inch; 4 sc = 1 inch
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Note
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Head & Body
Row 1 (WS): With white ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (7 sc)
Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 1, sk first 2 sc, 4 dc in next sc, sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, 4 dc in next sc, 3 dc in end ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, 4 dc in next ch, sk next ch, sc in next ch, sk next ch, 4 dc in next ch, sk next ch, sc in side edge of end sc, do not join or turn.
Rnd 3 (RS): Work 2 sc in each of next 4 dc (first half of head), sk next sc, 2 sc in each of next 11 dc (body), sk next sc, 2 sc in each of next 4 dc (2nd half of head), sk next sc, join in first sc (center top of head), fasten off.
Row 4 (RS): Attach white in first sc of body, ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 21 sc, turn. (22 sc)
Row 5 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each of next 22 sc, turn.

First arm
Row 6 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each of next 4 sc, turn. (4 sc)
Rows 7 & 8: Ch 1, sc in each of next 4 sc, turn. At the end of Row 8, fasten off.
Row 9: Attach burgundy yarn in first sc of previous row, ch 2, [yo, insert hook in next sc, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 4 times, yo, draw through all 5 lps on hook, ch 1 to lock, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.

Second arm
Row 6 (RS): Attach white in 4th sc at opposite edge of Row 5, ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, turn. (4 sc)
Rows 7-9: Rep Rows 7-9 of first arm.

Hat
Row 1 (RS): Mark off center top 10 sts across top of head, attach burgundy, ch 1, sc in each of next 10 sts, turn. (10 sc)
Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each of next 6 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, fasten off, turn.
(8 sc)
Row 3 (RS): Draw up a lp light green in first sc, ch 1, sc in each of next 8 sc, fasten off, turn. (8 sc)
Row 4: Draw up a lp of burgundy, ch 1, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each of next 4 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, turn. (6 sc)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, turn. (4 sc)
Row 7: Rep Row 5.
Row 8: Ch 1, [dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] twice, turn. (2 sc)
Row 9: Rep Row 5.
Row 10: Ch 1, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.

Scarf
Row 1: With light green, ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, fasten off. (30 sc)
Row 2: Attach burgundy in first sc, ch 1, sc in each of next 30 sc, fasten off. (30 sc)
Row 3: Attach burgundy in opposite side of foundation ch of Row 1, ch 1, sc in each ch across, fasten off. (30 sc)

Finishing
Thread tapestry needle with rem length of yarn at top of hat, pass needle through center of pompom and out opposite edge, remove needle and tie end in a knot and cut rem length, secure knot with a drop of glue.

Place scarf around neckline, cross ends at front; tack in place to secure.

Glue red bead for nose at center of head. For eyes, glue dark beads evenly sp above nose.

Fold left arm inward onto body around candy cane and with rem burgundy length, secure arm to body.

For hanging lp, thread gold cord through center st at back of hat on Row 1, knot ends.
